spiced pomegranate champagne punch

This sparkling pomegranate punch is fruity, refreshing and ideal for the holiday season! Top off your glass of holiday cheer with a bit of ginger ale and garnish with orange slices, pomegranate arils and extra cinnamon sticks to make the perfect festive cocktail!

We’re kicking off December with our favorite holiday cocktail: spiced pomegranate champagne punch! While punch is great for serving a crowd, I know this year we’ll all be celebrating in smaller numbers so this recipe can easily be halved as needed. Whether you serve it at a family gathering or a cozy night in for two, this festive cocktail will definitely get you in the holiday spirit!

The boozy base of this pomegranate punch is champagne and spiced rum. I like to use two bottles of champagne and 1.5 cups (350 ml) of spiced rum. Two cups of rum (500 ml) would definitely be acceptable so make sure to adjust to taste! As for the champagne, prosecco or sparkling wine would work just as well. I would just suggest using something on the drier side as the juice will sweeten the punch.

About two cups (500 ml) each of pomegranate juice and orange juice gives this punch the perfect amount of fruity sweetness. Pomegranate juice can be quite tart so you can play with that ratio depending on the flavor you’re looking for. And lastly, I like to squeeze in the juice of one lime to freshen up and balance out the cocktail!

And while it’s not necessary, we like to top off each glass with a splash of of ginger ale. It adds just a bit more spice to the overall cocktail and allows everyone to adjust the booziness to their own preference!

the garnishes!

And no glass of holiday punch is complete without the garnishes! I always add orange slices and cinnamon sticks directly to the pitcher to let them blend with the punch. And with each glass I like to add a sprinkling of pomegranate arils and a sprig of rosemary. The rosemary is optional, but it adds a pop of green to the crimson cocktail and just makes it feel a bit more festive.

To add even more spice to your punch, try adding whole cloves, a bit of ginger or a few pods of star anise to the pitcher. And if you’d like to add more fruit to soak up all that boozy deliciousness, cranberries and apples would make excellent additions!
